How to Make Handmade Goat Milk Soap Last Longer | Lil Daisy Soaps

Here’s how to care for your handmade soap, from the first lather to the last tiny little sliver.
Why does handmade soap get soft?
When a soap bar sits in water or stays damp, its surface softens and washes away more easily. Leaving soap in a puddle or directly under the shower spray can use it up even when you’re not washing with it.
The goal isn’t to keep your soap from getting wet. What you want to do is to help it drain and dry afterward.
Use a soap dish with good drainage
A draining soap dish is one of the simplest ways to help your bar last longer. Look for raised ridges, drainage holes, or an open slatted design that keeps the soap above standing water.
Rinse away soap buildup regularly and empty any water that collects underneath. A dish can only do its job if the water has somewhere to go.
Keep your bar away from the shower spray
Where you store your soap in the shower matters. Choose a shelf or holder away from the direct stream of water, including runoff and splashes.
If every corner of your shower gets soaked, move your bar to a dry, draining dish outside the shower after washing.
Let handmade soap dry between uses
Give your bar space and airflow rather than leaving it on a wet ledge or inside a closed, damp container.
Packing soap for a trip? Let it dry before placing it in a travel case whenever possible. At your destination, open the case and let the bar drain between washes.
Store unused soap in a cool, dry place
Handmade soap storage matters before the first wash, too. Keep spare bars away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight.
A dry cupboard outside a steamy bathroom is a practical choice. Don't store your soap in plastic bags or wrap in plastic with the idea that you will preserve the scent. Handmade soap likes to breathe. If the scent fades a bit, it's no problem, once you start to use the bar the scent will return.
Make use of small soap pieces
Collect those small pieces of soap and place them into a soap-saving pouch. Just remember that the pouch needs to drain and dry between uses, too. Need a soap dish or soap saver? You can find both in our store to help you get the most out of every bar.
A simple routine for a longer lasting bar
You don’t need a complicated routine to make handmade soap last longer. Keep it out of standing water, protect it from constant shower spray, and let it dry between washes.
